Psychosis

Psychosis is a term used to describe psychological problems which prevent a person from thinking clearly and determining what is real and what is a fantasy. Various causes might trigger psychosis, and two symptoms are typical for it – hallucinations and delusions.

What are the symptoms?

  • Hallucinations = seeing, hearing or feeling things that do not exist outside one’s mind
  • Delusions = unshakeable beliefs not commonly part of one’s culture or common sense

There are support groups for people with psychosis that offer space to meet with others who have a similar experience.

What’s the treatment?

While no pill would suit all, treating the symptoms or getting a cure with proper support and an individual approach is possible.

In many cases, the symptoms don’t go away, and they may appear from time to time, but they become manageable with proper support and treatment.
